Have A Break

This morning finds me in beautiful Valencia enjoying a few days away with my gorgeous wife.
It also finds me without a Top Tips email written for the day. And it's Friday so there must be a Top Tips or there'll be complaints.
Or maybe not complaints but certainly rude words and sarcastic comments from the usual suspects. (I'm looking at you Berkoski!)
Slow Down
So although I may be in peril of having my cake and eating it, this week's Top Tip is simply to have a break. Give yourself permission to have a day off.
Maybe not a full day off - I don't want your boss writing to me - but a day off from the 100 percent effort you normally give.
- The extra sets in the gym.
- Or going the extra mile for that particular client.
- Or washing the car.
- Or whatever it is that you feel you could sacrifice and reclaim the time for yourself.
This weekend take the time for you by dropping something that you would normally spend time doing.
Writing this email should only take a few minutes which means by the time my missus is out of the bathroom and dressed, I'll have published this and we'll be ready to head out for the day. Which I think is the best option in the circumstances.
Half Man Half Biscuit
It's not a cop out however. The advice is very wise and I'm happy to be taking it myself.
Kit Kat based their whole advertising slogan on this simple concept of stepping off the treadmill and taking stock. They were into wellbeing before it was a thing!
And they've not changed the tagline since it was coined in 1957. Because it works.
The message of step back and take some time for yourself resonates through the generations. Plus I'm sure it sells a shedload of chocolate bars so why fix something that's not broken right?
So this weekend do make some time for yourself and take care of your mental and physical health.
Right, it's 25 degrees and sunny. I'm stepping out the door - there's a cafe con leche waiting for me.
